Pictures from York

Started off on a double decker bus that showed us the tourist sites around town.

On top level of the double decker.

Sites along the way...

The whole city is surrounded by castle walls.

Enterance into the city

Jason smelling the flowers :)

Starting to rain...went into one of the gardens outside the city

York Minster

More of the Minster

Firefighters outside the York Minster posing for some pictures

Some delicious treats inside one of the bakeries we passed along the way.

There used to be a daylight tax on people who lived in the city several hundreds of years back. You were taxed on how many windows you had, which would determine how much sunlight you'd get in a day. If you had too many windows and couldn't afford the tax, people would either brick up windows themselves, or the city would do it for you. Here's a window that got bricked.

Clifford Tower

My first bathroom I had to pay for. 20 pence!

Old street where the butchers used to work. This street is extremely narrow to reduce the amount of sunlight that would hit the windows on this street. Back then they didn't have freezers, so by making the street narrow it actually made the road a few degrees cooler to allow the meat to stay fresher longer.

Some Yum Yums (that's what they were called) for an afternoon snack :)

Dinner time!
